Richard qualified as a solicitor in 1979 and practised in London specialising in the legal liabilities of public bodies. He was appointed a Deputy High Court Judge in 2003 and a Circuit Judge in 2004. He is now the Honorary Recorder of Luton and the Resident Judge at Luton Crown Court.
