Senior House Music Competition 2022
Posted: 23/03/2022
This year’s House Music competitions took place on Friday, 18th March 2022. There was an outstanding array of talent from all involved and wonderful support from friends, colleagues and family too. This year’s adjudicator was Mr Jonathan Soman, Director of Music from RGS Worcester, who gave exceptional feedback to all performers. No fewer than ninety musicians took to the stage this year for the ensemble competition - the first competition of the day with Ottilie Hild House making their debut.
Each House ensemble gave their all and impressed the adjudicator with their variety of musical styles, communicative qualities and arrangements. For the Ensemble Competition, the Highly Commended award went to Walters for their cover of ‘Hey, Soul Sister’ by Train; with Elmshurst as runners up with a beautiful instrumental arrangement of a ‘Studio Ghibli Medley’, and Wendron-Gordon were the winning ensemble with ‘Country House’ by Blur.
In the evening, we returned to Routh once again to hear soloists battle it out in two categories: Intermediate and Advanced. Each finalist had progressed from the first round three weeks ago, at which sixty-six musicians auditioned. It really was an evening of superb music-making.
For the Intermediate category, the winners were as follows - highly commended drummer, Euan C (Lyttelton); runner up singer Jack H (Walters) and the winning trophy to singer, Ilerioluwa O (Ottilie Hild) who performed a fabulous rendition of ‘The Lady is a Tramp’.
For the Advanced category, the winners were - highly commended, Larry T (Wendron-Gordon); runner up recorder player Eleanor B (Ottilie Hild) and the winner’s trophy to pianist Joshua G (Lyttelton) who gave an outstanding performance of Liszt’s ‘Un Sospiro’.
